I started on the SEO classes after being in web design for over 8 years. But really I had no clue about getting the SEO done on websites. Prior to these classes I used to pay for submissions to the search engines. I developed a website for myself and decided that I needed to really get to know SEO if I was going to get this right.

Since starting these classes I initially thought it would be nice to just follow through and confirm what I already knew. Phew let me tell you by the third round of being in these classes I had to come out of the shock of realizing that I had no clue.

When I first launched my website I operated under the "build it and they will come" theory. I figured that if I had great products the business would take off. Well…no one came and then had to buy keyword to get traffic which drained my operating funds. Then I discovered Cricket and bought her SEO Techniques book. After reading through it several times and going through her class, my website went from no rankings to a top ranked competitor in a highly competitive space.

Looking back I feel so dumb, I actually used part numbers for each of the title pages on my product pages instead of actual names of the product. It is written succinctly with step by step instructions that build on each other to create web pages that place well in any search engine.

My copy of Cricket's ebook, SEO Techniques is a very important ingredient that I can't be without. Cricket's classes are absolutely wonderful; a mixture of basic and advanced teaching, motivation and encouragement. The classes move fast and I must stop and repair my website as I learn new techniques. The class does not stop for me, therefore, I can get a feeling of being behind. Feeling like I am behind gives me a sense of frustration and my usual reaction is to give up.

The SEO Techniques ebook is written in the same order as the class. I can see what I have accomplished and the finishing line, plus it keeps me on track. I think the eBook on SEO Techniques is going to be used more than any other book I've ever bought at that price. When I first started the class, it helped me see "where I'm at" when the on-line classes seemed overwhelming. Now that I've been through several sessions, but am still in the classes, I use it primarily when I'm creating a new page from scratch and want to get things right the first time.

Someday, however, I hope my business will keep me busy enough that I will no longer have time for the on-line classes. At that point the eBook will really be a treasure. For over 2 sessions of Cricket’s online SEO and Website Marketing classes I had resisted purchasing her E-Book. It wasn’t until then that I started to believe that I ever might be able to work independently, without the hand holding provided and frequent interaction of her classes.

I started my on-line business in September, 2001, while working a full time job in corporate America. My dream was to be able to quit my day job and work full time from home with a larger income than I was making at a traditional job. Working in downtown Houston, my salary was much more than I would be making working in the suburbs, but the commute time was killing me.

So, I had a pretty large goal. I built my web-site with the help of my mom, who already had a very successful on-line business. She filtered business down to me and kept my hopes up, but I knew I had to do something more to make my business fly on its own.

After much thought, I decided that I should leave my comfortable job of 20 years and I found a new job, closer to home, to allow me more time at home to work on my business. The income was cut in half and the time at home was also cut in half. I worked much longer hours under extremely stressful conditions that allowed virtually no time for my business. I was definitely moving in the wrong direction.

In January, 2004, I experienced the most devastating day of my life, I was fired.

One thing that will forever stick out in my mind about that day is a sign I saw outside one of the local churches. It said “Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now?” It was a play on the Verizon Wireless Cell Phone commercials, but to me, it felt like a direct question from God.

I had joined a yahoo group of work at home moms that support each other in business. I learned so much from this group. They kept talking about optimizing your web-site, what in the world did that mean?

One day a post came through talking about a free SEO class. What? Free? Is this for real? What’s the catch? I had signed up for dozens of other “programs” that would help me get traffic to my web-site and they all ended up wanting money, Lots of Money. I didn’t have any money; I’d already taken a large cut in pay, then lost my job and was struggling to pay the household expenses.

Well, I guess I can give it a try, if they end up wanting money, I’ll just remove myself from their list. I joined the SEO class in July, 2004. Yes, it was free. There was an e-book, but you didn’t have to buy it, so I didn’t. I just followed the instructions from the e-mail classes. Boy, was I in over my head. I had no idea what the classes were talking about. I’d go to sleep at night, my mind reeling, trying to get my brain around these classes. But, I kept at it. I ended up completely redesigning my web-site, I just couldn’t stick to one page, as the light began to come on. I look back at my first web-site and blush in embarrassment. It was awful!

By September, my site was pretty much optimized, and my business was picking up, but I was sure there was more. I poured over the lessons to see what I had missed. My site had moved from number 10,000 something to the front page of the search engines. Things were definitely looking up, but where were the orders? Cricket asked me, “How many visitors do you have per day?”, “Uhhh, I don’t know?”

After learning how to get stat results and learning to read them, I found out that I had on average about 50 visitors a day. Wow, I thought this was a great number. It would be if they were all ordering.

Then one day, orders just started coming in, then the next day and the next day. What? Orders daily? How did that happen? A quick check on the search engines for my primary key word, showed me number one in all three of the major search engines. I could not believe my eyes. Number One. Then a quick check of the visitors stats. 150 per day. You are kidding me.

So, for me, going step by step through the lessons, it took me about three months to get to number one in the search engines. I was very serious in my studies and sometimes worked on the lessons, up to 10 hours per day.

I won’t kid you and tell you it was easy. I had a lot to learn. I did buy the e-book when I could and use it daily as my security blanket. I’ve maintained my number one position for several keywords and my daily visitors has grown to around 400 per day. In addition, more than 400 people per month, save my site to their favorites.

My monthly orders on average are equal to or greater than my take home pay from my lifelong job. My friends from work tell me how much they “hate” me. It’s been almost 2 years since I worked for someone else and I have no intention of ever working for someone else again. I firmly believe that this business is part of God’s plan for me and I’m certain He led me to Cricket. I will forever be indebted to her for what she gave me.

When I ask, “How can I repay you?”, she always responds, “Pay it Forward!”
