Creating SEO Friendly Titles in WordPress
SEO Friendly Titles and WordPress Blogs

You have likely already noticed that most blogging programs do not create
particularly SEO friendly titles. The WordPress default creates titles
that begin with the title of your blog, followed by the title of the post.
This
means the first half of the title will be identical for every single page
on your blog. If you are concerned about optimizing your blog for the search engines, this
may not be the best way to title your pages.
You can overcome this challenge by
following this step by step tutorial for creating SEO friendly titles in
WordPress that will reverse the order of your page titles.

Step 1 - Familiarize Yourself With The Optimal Title Plugin
Read the instructions for the
Optimal Title Plugin to give you a general idea of what we will be
doing. For those of you very familiar with WordPress, the instructions will make
perfect sense and you will likely have no need for the rest of this tutorial.
Beginners may prefer the step by step instructions I have written out below.

Step 2 - Download and Save Optimal Title Plugin
Click on the download link for
Optimal Title v1.0 This will open the download as a text file. From
the browser file menu select Save As and save this file to your desktop.

On the right side of the page you will see template files which are used
in your theme. Select the header template. Not all themes will have this
as a separate file. If you do not see that template, then it may be included
within the main template.

Scroll down to the coding and look for the code that creates the title. It will
be the code within the opening and closing title tag.
Replace the code used for the title with the following code:
<title><?php optimal_title(); ?><?php bloginfo('name'); ?></title>

Scroll down to select the update file button.
