Setting WordPress Preferences by GNC Web Creations

Setting WordPress Preferences

Configuring Preferences in WordPress

With the admin control panel, setting your WordPress preferences is a simple matter. We are going to cover just a few of the basic settings that I find most important.

STEP 1 - Select General Options Preferences

Go to the admin control panel.

Click on: Options > General

Select membership preferences. I highly recommend placing a check mark in front of "Users must be registered and logged in to comment".

You may also set the date and time preferences on this same page.

When finished, click on: Update Options

STEP 2 - Select Writing Options Preferences

Select: Options > Writing

I highly recommend setting the preference that new members "cannot write articles".

Make sure that "Update Services" shows the following in the text field:

When finished, click on: Update Options

STEP 3 - Select Options Discussion Preferences

Select: Options > Discussion

I place a check in the following settings:

User Setting for an Article:

  - Allow link notifications from other Weblogs

  - Allow people to post comments on the article

E-mail me whenever:

  - Anyone posts a comment

  - comment is held for moderation

Before a comment appears:

  - An administrator must approve the comment

  - Comment author must fill out name and e-mail

  - Comment author must have a previously approved comment

If you selected the same options as I have, there will be no need to fill in additional items at the bottom of this page.

When finished, click on: Update Options

That's the main preference settings you need to be concerned about! Work through any additional preferences and move on to Installing WordPress Themes.

I WILL SEE YOU AT THE TOP!
